President’s Message

President’s Message – Alexis Eun Young Choi

It is an incredible honour to step into the role of President of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL) Ontario.

Founded on the belief that our community is stronger together, FACL has grown into a vibrant network of legal professionals and supporters committed to promoting equity, justice, and opportunities for Asian Canadian legal professionals and the broader community. I am deeply grateful to our members, past presidents, board members, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters, whose dedication and courage have brought us to where we are today.

As a first-generation lawyer who grew up in poverty, I have experienced first-hand the power of community and mentorship at FACL. Since joining as a law student, I found a sense of belonging in the legal profession at FACL. I have been supported by countless mentors who wanted to make the legal profession better for those who follow. Over the years, I had the privilege of serving FACL as Treasurer, Secretary, and Co-Chair of the Conference and Gala, Mentorship, and Strategic Planning Committees. These experiences have deepened my commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in our profession and to fostering spaces where members feel supported in their growth and
aspirations.

I am proud of our organization’s recent successes in providing opportunities for meaningful engagement, professional development, and mentorship opportunities. Looking ahead, we will continue these initiatives and implement new ones to amplify our advocacy, expand programming for different career stages, increase accessibility through virtual programming, strengthen community building and partnerships through collaborations with other organizations, and strive for operational excellence.

FACL is a volunteer-driven, pan-Asian, non-profit organization and I warmly invite you and your friends to join our community at https://on.facl.ca/become-a-member/ as Full or Student Members. Together, we can continue to strengthen our community, empower one another, and eliminate barriers for future generations.

Thank you for the privilege of serving as your President and I look forward to working with you.
