FACL is proud to recognize lawyers of East Asian, South Asian and Southeast Asian descent who have made significant contributions to their communities and the broader legal community with the FACL Awards. Nominate Asian lawyers who you believe have made a difference! Nomination forms are attached to the newsletter and provided below.
The following awards will be presented at the FACL Gala 2013 on Wednesday May 29, 2013 at the Downtown Marriott Hotel (525 Bay Street) in Toronto, Ontario:
- FACL Lifetime Achievement Award
- Recognizes an Asian-Canadian legal professional, who has practised law for a minimum of 25 years, and has made significant and longstanding contributions to the legal community and for positive contributions made to social justice and/or the Asian community.

- FACL Lawyer of Distinction Award
- Recognizes an Asian-Canadian legal professional, who has practised law for a minimum of 10 years, for significant accomplishments in the law and for service to the legal profession, areas of social justice and/or the Asian community.

- FACL Young Lawyer of the Year Award
- Recognizes an Asian-Canadian legal professional, who has practised law for no more than 10 years, for achievements which are beyond what is expected of him or her based on his or her experience.

- FACL Social Justice Award
- Recognizes a person, organization or company which has demonstrated achievements in at least one of the following areas: diversity, innovation, leadership, public service, professional development, philanthropy, volunteerism and furthering the goals of FACL.

- Omatsu FACL Scholarship
- The Omatsu FACL Scholarship was established to honour Justice Maryka Omatsu, Canada’s first East Asian woman judge. One award in the amount of $1,000 or two awards in the amount of $500 each will be awarded in 2013 to a law student or students based on the particular considerations.
