TorontoNAJC  Public Discussion Series  Session #2
Are Canadian Miners Involved in Human Rights Abuses?
“Why you might want to take that Canadian flag off of your backpack”

Shin Imai,  Lawyer and Professor, Osgoode Law Faculty, York University
Shin’s interest in human rights  has taken him from the Sodan Kai in the redress movement,
to advocating for Aboriginal rights for Canadian Indians,  to investigating human rights abuses in Latin America.

Canadians are vaguely aware that mining plays an important part in the Canadian economy, but most do not realize that Canada is the world centre for financing mining companies. There are numerous Canadian mining companies abroad.  Murders, rapes, beatings and corruption have been associated with the activities of  large and small Canadians companies operating in Latin America.
