Hello to FACL members:
I write as President of FACL. I am also Vice-Chair of the Roundtable of Diversity Associations (RODA), in which FACL is a member association, and chairing its sub-committee on the Bencher elections.
FACL is proud to announce that we are participating with RODA in its first “meet and greet” event for racialized and other equity-seeking (LGBT, persons with disabilities, Aboriginal) candidates for Bencher. The purpose of the event is to promote candidates from equity seeking groups, and give our members an opportunity to meet the candidates.
This event will be held on March 3, at Convocation Hall at the Law Society of Upper Canada (Osgoode Hall, 130 Queen St West) from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. We anticipate that each candidate will speak about their election platform for 5 minutes, following which attendees will be able to mingle with the candidates and get to know each other.
The event is open to all registered members of each of RODA’s member associations. If you wish to attend, please ensure you are registered with FACL. If not, you may register here: http://facl.ca/membership/
Please RSVP to president@facl.ca to confirm your attendance (with “RSVP to RODA EVENT” in the subject line). Further details will be delivered as we get closer to the date.
BENCHER CANDIDATES
RODA has also asked its member associations to submit names of self-identified racialized / equity-seeking (LGBT, persons with disabilities, Aboriginal) candidates to be promoted at this “meet and greet” event. If you are a FACL registered member who self-identifies as a racialized candidate for Bencher, and would like FACL to submit your name to be highlighted at this event, please email me directly at president@facl.ca.
