FACL congratulates New Treasurer and New Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada

FACL congratulates Janet E. Minor on her election as the Law Society of Upper Canada’s 65th Treasurer!  Janet has been a long-time friend to FACL, and an active participant and supporter of FACL activities and events.  Her work with the Access to Justice Commmittee and the Retention of Women and Challenges Faced by Racialized Licensees working groups at the Law Society of Upper Canada has made her an important partner for FACL and other likeminded groups that seek equity, justice, and opportunity for minority legal professionals and communities.  In Janet’s words:

“I am honoured and humbled to be elected by my fellow benchers to serve as Treasurer of the Law Society,” Minor said. “This is a very exciting time to lead the Law Society, as we deal with the challenges and opportunities of globalization, technology and demographic change, while striving to make legal services more accessible and the profession more inclusive. As Treasurer, I look forward to continuing to enhance public confidence in our regulatory processes and working collaboratively with our justice partners to identify and deliver concrete solutions to improve the public’s access to legal services.”

FACL is proud to announce that, Jeffrey Lem, a partner with Miller Thomson LLP practising real estate law, has been elected Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Jeffrey is a member and close friend to FACL, and has actively participated in FACL’s activities and events, including being a frequent speaker at FACL Conferences.  In 2013, Jeffrey was awarded the FACL Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the legal profession and community service over the course of his over 25 years of legal practice. Jeffrey maintains that the privilege and ability to practice law comes with it an obligation of community service, and he recognizes the critical importance of mentorship to the development of successful lawyers and professionals. FACL congratulates Jeffrey on his election to Bencher!
