Hatsumi: One Grandmother’s Journey Through the Japanese Canadian Internment, the documentary film made by FACL VP Communications Chris Hope, is screening on February 10th at the Bloor Cinema.

Giller Prize winning author Dr. Vincent Lam has chosen Chris Hope’s Hatsumi for the PEN Picks films series sponsored by PEN Canada and the Hot Docs Film Festival.

On February 10th, Dr. Lam will curate a screening of the film at the Bloor Cinema. He will then discuss his personal interest in the film and participate in an audience Q&A following the screening.  Dr. Lam was the keynote speaker at the 2013 FACL gala and he became aware of Hatsumi when he received a copy of the film as a gift from FACL at the event.

FACL Atlantic launched and FACL Western coming soon!

From the establishment of FACL as an organization in Ontario in 2007 to its expansion in Vancouver in 2011, FACL has continued to grow toward become a truly national federation.  With the official launch of FACL Atlantic last week that took place as a result of the efforts of Megan Seto and Johnny Maskin, FACL now consists of three chapters.  With FACL Western soon to be launched as a result of the efforts of Beverly Ma and Steven Ngo, we look forward to bringing our fourth chapter online soon.  We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Serene Chow, President of FACL BC for generously providing our new chapters with her valuable start-up advice.
