Avvy Go Elected Bencher of The Law Society of Upper Canada

FACL is pleased to announce that FACL founding officer Avvy Yao-Yao Go has been elected to the position of bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada at the June 27thConvocation of the Law Society.  Go was elected to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Wendy Matheson as a judge of the Superior Court of Ontario.

Avvy Go has served as the Clinic Director of the Metro Toronto Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic since 1992 and has spent her legal career working as a passionate advocate for legal aid access and for the furtherance of equity within the legal profession.  In 2007, along with Superior Court Justice Maryka Omatsu and Lawyer Julia Shin-Doi, Go organized and launched FACL.

The FACL Board is proud to celebrate Go’s election and is honoured to continue to support her work throughout the pan-Asian communities of Canada.

Interesting fact:  The Law Society of Upper Canada was created by an act of the Legislative Assembly in 1797.
